The Process of Fat Burning:

Fat Loss 4 IdiotsLipolysis or Fat Burning

The trick to losing weight is to understand the physiological mechanism of fat metabolism. In simple terms this means to understand how the body handles fat.

Many people do not know that there is actually an in built mechanism in our body to burn the fat that we consume and store. This process is called LIPOLYSIS.

Glucagon Vs Insulin

Lipolysis or fat burning is increased by a hormone called GLYCOGEN and NOT Insulin as many wrongly believe. In fact insulin does the exact opposite of glucagon.

Hence there are two factors to contend with in order to increase lipolysis and burn that fat.

1. Increase production of Glucagon and

2. Decrease production of Insulin

The Effects of Glucagon and Insulin on Fat Burning

Glucagon like Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas.

Glucagon production is increased by amino acids in the blood. Proteins are made of amino acids. Therefore by eating protein rich foods the pancreas can be fooled into releasing copious amounts of Glucagon into the blood. This facilitates Lipolysis or fat burning to occur.

Insulin production on the other hand is increased by glucose or sugar in the blood. Carbohydrates as everyone knows are made of sugars. Thus a high carbohydrate diet would lead to a rise in insulin production and a resultant decrease in Lipolysis.

The Fat Burning Strategy

Hence a strategic balance in favour of Glucagon needs to be struck for efficient Lipolysis or fat burning. In other words turning on the Glucagon switch and turning off the Insulin switch is needed for effective fat burning. If this is accomplished, truly remarkable results could be achieved in terms of rapid but physiological weight loss.
