Common opinion of snacking is that it's something bad and unhealthy but actually it's not true. Even doctors recommend that we snack during the day. It gives us additional energy and we don't starve throughout the day. The only problem is that people usually choose wrong snacks. It's some kind of tradition snacking with crisps and candies or sweets; and this is where snacking is getting really bad. Anyway even having these unhealthy and "bad" snacks time after time won't do lot of harm.
Energy bars as a snack from the local health store is a bad choice though. It's ok if you attend the gym but it's completely wrong choice if you spend the most of your time behind the desk. Here is one good and healthy alternative. Prepare your own snack pouch. Fill it with veggies you will eat. Cut celery, carrots, pepper and so on. Keep a salt shaker in your desk and add some salt on your veggies during the snacking and you'll see that this is quite tasty and the most important - healthy and good snack.
Also, don't forget about fruits. Don't use those in tins but if you do, use with no sugar added. Anyway fresh, whole fruit is the best choice. Personally I prefer apples, peaches, pears and plums.
Fancy fruit cocktail? Don't use one from the tin, make your own. First, you'll cut out that fluid which usually is heavy syrup and second, self made cocktail will be fresh and contain ingredients only you like. Add some grapes, cut pear, kiwi and banana. Cut some melon and instead of a sugar rich liquid add to your cocktail orange or other juice. This will help you to avoid of lots of calories.
Another great snack is yoghurt. Go for plain yoghurt because fruity ones usually have sugar in them which you don't need. Instead choose your own fruits and add them to your yoghurt.
Whole wheat crackers make other excellent snack. Make sure you get the ones that aren't loaded with fat.
Choose healthy, low-calorie snacks and make your snacking benefit your health. This also is a good way to improve your look and lose weight.
