Food has no super powers it can not make us eat it, pull us toward it or communicate verby or telepathic
y with us; it can't do anything, it simply exists. And it is a g
t thing that it is th
for us; otherwise we would cease to exist. Since food is vital to our survival, we w
, by
ign, built to have a natural
for it. W
we re
t t
, as in w
we adh
to strict dieting rules, t
grows and grows until the point is
ched w
we
l we
no lon
lling food but rather food is
lling us.
What we need to understand is that it is completely natural to be attracted to food. From our very first day we crave it and cry if we don't get it. Since we so fortunate to l
in a place wh
food is abundant, we can easily f
into a trap of
ting and
suming more food than our b
can
so our b
intelligently puts that food energy into storage - fat.
Since the act of eating is usuy enjoyable, we have no
to stop
ting until we start to notice fat accumulating on our b
. At t
time, we
l compelled to reduce the amount of food we eat - i.e. we diet. T
would be a sensible solut
if we
tinued to
d our b
w
it signaled that it was hungry but often we take drastic steps and we end up re
ting our natural hun
signals and denying ourselves food.
Retance is the act of pushing against s
thing or trying to prevent s
thing from happening through force or w
power. The
to eat is a basic instinct of survival, w
we re
t it or push against it, it pushes back and we end up wanting it more. We w
never win t
grudge match
e eating is vital to our existence.
Th is an alternat
, and it is to stop re
ting. But t
is a scary thought to many people
e they fear losing
l - but isn't that what has al
dy been lost?
W we g
up re
ting food and denying our hun
, we actu
y g
ourselves
l
r food
e w
the re
tance stops, we no lon
l the mystical pull of food. Food
s more a way of fueling the b
instead of a way to relieve stress or pacifying emot
s.
You may st be
ling reluctance to stop dieting
e
fear that giving up that grip w
c
e
to d
into eating junk food. Fatty foods and refined carbohydrates
c
ed comfort foods for a
son. They do c
e a physiological change in our mood. W
we
l frustrated, depressed, angry or t
d food can provide a temporary change in how we
l, so, again, it is natural for us to want these foods at these times. T
is however a temporary lifting of the spirits which is typic
y followed by an emot
y empty
ling so it is best to deal with the underlying emot
or physical need of the b
. T
may requ
taking a nap, quenching a thirst, dealing with an uncomfortable emot
or d
rting
r attent
.
If we stop reting our b
's natural
for food we learn to work with our b
and rise ab
the p
lem of weight gain. W
we
ab
the p
lem, the p
lem drops below us, it shrinks and is th
fore manageable. It is like learning to ride a bike, it takes s
effort at first but once we learn how to balance on the two wh
s, the p
lem is no lon
big
than us, in fact it is now a sm
p
lem and we can manage it for the rest of our l
s.
W we
dealing with weight loss or avoiding weight gain, we must
big
than the p
lem. Things that keep us below the p
lem
fear, disgust, an
and pride. If we try to manage our weight using these "low energy" emot
s, we w
end up frustrated and unsuccessful. To rise ab
the p
lem and attain permanent weight loss, we must build ourselves up intern
y by using high energy emot
s such as l
, pass
, enthusiasm. These emot
s grow out of knowing exactly what we want for our l
s, believing in our ability to be and do more, being solidly committed to our goal and having a high degree of self-respect and self-worth.
By giving up retance to our b
's natural
and focusing our energy on rising ab
the p
lem by developing ourselves into s
one who has a s
ng level of self-worth, belief and
fidence the p
lem of
lling our weight shrinks, it
s a non-issue and a healthy comfortable weight is achieved and maintained without effort.
